September
Thank you all so much for a wonderful Back-To-School Night. I feel this is the time to give children the skills they will need to help them through their years of schooling.
Reading truly is the key to success and this is the year for your child to unlock the door. Please find the time to take your child to the library. Help them chose books at their reading level. On the back of most books you will find a rating system (e.g. RL3.3, means the book has been rated for the third grade third month student). If the book doesn’t have a reading level, have your child read one page aloud. If they can not decode more than four words, the book is too difficult for them. If they miss two to three words they are reading at their instructional level and will benefit from reading the book. The more your children reads the better readers they become.
Homework is given each night (Monday-Thursday). If you have a Birthday or family emergency please write a note excusing your child from the work until the following day. If your child forgets their homework assignment they can either call a buddy, check my website, or write out similar math problems on their own that we have been working on, or write out sentences using our current spelling words in order to get homework credit without having the actual assignment. The bigger lesson for them to learn is responsibility and organization. The only time your child will be sitting out during recess is when they totally disregard the assignment and have not made any attempt to be responsible.
Please don't forget to sign up for Remind, a text reminder application, that will allow me to send out classroom reminders via text.To begin receiving text messages, simply text 81010 with the message @banis19. It's my hope that this will strengthen the home-school connection.
Thank you so much for everyone that donated to our classroom fund. I really appreciate all the support to run the best class I can for your child. This fund goes directly to your child for supplies throughout the year. We are about half way there, please feel free to bring your donations next week to school. Again your support means a lot.
Thank you for all for coming to Back-to-School Night. This is going to be a wonderful year. This class is positive, enthusiastic and eager to learn. I feel as if I’ve been given a gift this year and I am excited to be on a journey of discovery with this special class. With all the energy in the room we will definitely be on the move.
Thanks to all who signed up to help our class. Listed below you will see all the jobs that have been filled and areas in which we can still use help. If you have an asterisk in front of your name can you please be in charge of coordinating your parents. Also if possible, give me a schedule, so I will know who to expect each day.
Thanks.
